About me

Ashley Schofield-McEachern, MA, BScN, RN, RP, PMH-C (she/her)

Being a nurse, therapist, wife, dog mom, daughter, sister, auntie, and friend shapes who I am today. I genuinely care about people and am passionate about helping other women find their voice and light while encouraging them to challenge traditional norms that no longer fit. In my downtime, I enjoy visiting artisan markets for unique finds, decorating for the seasons, walking my dog, Max, and travelling.

Background

I became a Registered Nurse (RN) in 2012 and have practiced in community and public health settings before moving into private practice. Through my nursing role, I began developing my counselling skills, supporting individuals, families, and communities in building healthier habits to promote health and prevent disease. My work with moms and families during pregnancy through the postpartum period and beyond inspired me to pursue further education in psychotherapy. In 2022, I established this practice with a dedicated focus on empowering women in their journey to health and wellness. In 2023, I became dually registered as a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) to broaden access to psychotherapy services for clients with extended health benefits.

I’ve recently returned to public health nursing, supporting moms (and families) during pregnancy and early parenthood. This role allows me to continue my passion for maternal and family health, building connections in both public health and my private practice.

Advocating for change and helping people navigate the healthcare system is an important part of my practice. I recognize the variety of factors that influence our health beyond personal challenges; these are commonly referred to as social determinants of health, including things like education, social support and connection, working conditions, and culture. I became intrigued by the common thread mental health weaves across all areas of our lives and the struggles that arise as we are pushed to our limits. I've witnessed how resilient humans are in their ability to overcome these challenges. With self-compassion, care, and support along the way, individuals can navigate their experiences toward wellness.

My Approach

I approach therapy through a person-centered and strengths-based lens, focusing on you as a person and what you can do, while recognizing that your struggles or diagnosis do not define you . Therapy with me is tailored to your unique needs, seeing you as a whole person and not just your symptoms. As humans we each have individual qualities, yet we all share the fundamental need for connection. In our work together, you can expect respect, compassion, warmth, and a sense of humour throughout our sessions.

I apply an integrated and trauma-informed approach to therapy, drawing on a variety of evidence-based approaches and theories, including: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Theory, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Ecotherapy, Humanistic Theory, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing.
