ABOUT ME

Ashley Schofield-McEachern, MA, BScN, RN, RP(Qualifying), PMH-C (she/her)

Being a nurse, therapist, wife, dog-mom, daughter, sister, auntie and friend shapes who I am today. I care about people and am passionate about helping other women find their light, and lead their best life. In my down time I enjoy crafting, searching for vintage & antique finds, walking my dog, Max, and travel.

Background

I've worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) for the last decade in community and public health health before moving into private practice. Through my nursing role I began developing my counselling skills, supporting individuals, families and communities to build healthier habits to restore health, and prevent disease and injury. In recent years I worked with moms and families during pregnancy through postpartum and beyond from prenatal and newborn care to growth and development into the early years during calls and in-home visiting. Supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of parents during this major life transition was important and I was grateful to be apart of their journey. This work inspired me to pursue further education in psychotherapy and build a practice to empower and support women! Recently I became dually registered as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) to increase access to psychotherapy service coverage for clients who have workplace health benefits.

Advocating for change, and helping people navigate the healthcare system is an important part of my practice. I recognize the variety of factors that influence our health beyond personal risk factors, they're called determinants of health and include things like education, social support & connection, working conditions and culture. I became intrigued by the common thread mental health weaves across all areas of our lives, and the struggles that come as we're pushed to our limits. I've witnessed how resilient humans are in their ability to overcome these challenges with self-care, compassion and support along the way.

My Approach

I work from a person-centered and strengths-based lens in my practice, meaning I will focus on you as a person and what you can do, as your struggles or diagnosis do not define you . Therapy with me will be individually tailored to fit you, seeing you as a whole person and not just your symptoms. As humans we are each unique, yet share the common need for human connection. In working together, you will experience respect, compassion, warmth, and humour during our sessions.

I use an integrated approach to therapy, drawing on a variety of evidence-based approaches and theories, including;

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Theory, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT).
